UCSI takes a leading role in sustainable development

KUALA LUMPUR – UCSI Group held its Conference on Sustainability 2023, bringing together around 200 sustainability development experts, leading researchers and industry leaders for a brighter and greener tomorrow.
Themed for a Brighter, Greener Tomorrow, the conference highlighted the recent challenges and trends in sustainability and turned data into actionable insights.
UCSI Group founder and executive chairman Dato’ Peter Ng said that the conference evinced UCSI’s commitment to advance the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“We want to educate and empower individuals to make sustainable choices in their daily lives,” he said in his speech at Le Quadri Hotel. “We want to be a catalyst that sparks this green revival in Malaysian society.
“We are also seeking to promote greater collaboration between the university and the industry. Large organisations have many environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments to fulfil and they can work hand-in-hand with universities like UCSI.”
He added that UCSI would continue exploring new possibilities in its bid to promote sustainable development.
UCSI is an ardent advocate of the UN SDGs. It is the only private university in Malaysia to be recognised as a Regional Centre of Expertise (RCE) by the United Nations University, the academic and research arm of the UN.
UCSI also stands out as the only Malaysian university to run two RCEs.
Based in Kuching and Kuala Lumpur, the RCEs focus on Quality Education (SDG4), Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Climate Action (SDG 13), Life on Land (SDG 15), as well as Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG16).
